Play to Learn Preschool Curriculum

The Play to Learn Preschool Curriculum is an early-learning experience from The School House’s American Emergent Curriculum. It uses hands-on, connected lessons to introduce literacy, math, science, art, kindness, and curiosity together. Instead of relying on isolated worksheets or heavy screen time, families guide children through meaningful activities, conversations, and exploration in a prepared home learning environment.

The School House homeschool program is designed for learners roughly ages 3 to 12 and includes Pre-K through 8th grade curriculum. For preschoolers, activities and lessons can be guided at an age-appropriate pace, with a focus on building curiosity, language, early numeracy, social-emotional awareness, and confidence. Parents can use the program’s structure while responding to their child’s readiness and interests.

Play-based learning gives young children opportunities to investigate, make choices, practice language, solve simple problems, and connect ideas through active experiences. The School House curriculum adds purposeful structure by linking play and exploration to literacy, math, science, art, and character. This helps preschoolers develop foundational skills without making learning feel disconnected from the way young children naturally engage with the world.

No formal teaching experience is required. The program includes more than 400 educator training films that help parents understand how to present lessons and create a prepared environment at home. Families also receive live weekly educator support sessions with Q&A, recorded sessions for later viewing, office hours, and access to a member community. These resources provide practical guidance throughout the learning process.

Enrollment includes the complete curriculum delivered in eight-week sessions, educator training films, custom printables and lesson materials, Transparent Classroom progress and portfolio tools, live weekly support, and access to the School House Member Community. A digital welcome box is also provided at signup. Physical TSH Materials Boxes are optional and purchased separately, allowing families to choose materials that fit their preferred setup.

The homeschool curriculum is available at $125 per month per learner for 10 monthly payments across the school year, or $1,200 per learner when paid annually upfront. Both payment options include the same curriculum and support resources. Pricing is per child, and optional physical TSH Materials Boxes are not included in the base subscription. The free Mighty Networks community is available without a subscription.

Families use Transparent Classroom, an online progress and portfolio-tracking tool included with the curriculum. It helps parents record learning, organize evidence of completed work, and maintain a personalized picture of each child’s development. The system supports the program’s three-part approach: parents learn the material, guide lessons in a prepared environment, and document progress through the TSHA reporting process.

The School House curriculum is secular and emphasizes kindness, gratitude, civics, entrepreneurship, art, and connected academic learning. It is also designed to be screen-minimal for young learners. While parents use digital training films and online tools for support, the child-facing experience centers on printables, hands-on materials, conversation, observation, and active exploration rather than extended screen-based instruction.
