Concept:
The School House Anywhere Vero Beach has created a unique community environment where children have access to group learning with an amazing curriculum and beautiful program. Our homeschool Satellite is innovative and expansive.
We want children to have a space that they can learn uninterrupted in a creative and supportive way. We want children to have The School House experience, but with the flexibility of homeschooling. Children in this stage of development need to have a community that they can learn and grow with, as well as form their own mini society. However, we all know that public school is not what is best for our children, and we would like to participate in the education of our children. We believe we have created the best of both worlds with The School House Anywhere Vero Beach.
We meet Monday through Thursdays from 9am to 1pm. Our morning work cycle is from 9am-12pm, and then we share a meal from 12pm-1pm. During these hours, we utilize the materials in the space and use the American Emergent Curriculum. You will also have access to that curriculum and the program on TSHAnywhere.org where you can use the curriculum at home as well.
We have also offered our space to outside programs and providers to host additional options for enrichment classes in the afternoon. We call them Jam sessions. Afternoon Jam Sessions will be offered each day the we are open. There are three semesters of Jam Sessions for the School year; Semester 1 will start September 11th, 2023 and end December 14th, 2023, Semester 2 will start January 3rd, 2024 and end on March 14th, 2024 and Semester 3 sill begin on March 18th, 2024 and end on June 7th, 2024. The cost of each class will vary per class depending on the cost of materials needed.
Implementation:
The American Emergent Curriculum and Transparent Classroom- We will be working with the American Emergent Curriculum together. All the lessons on the AEC will be uploaded into Transparent Classroom where we keep track of your Learner’s progress. The curriculum is released in 6-week stages to make it easier to plan and follow.
Jam Sessions- We welcome outside programs and experts in their field to come host hour long classes on Mondays through Thursdays from 1pm-3pm, as well as Friday Mornings. Those classes range in many different topics, but include science-based classes, foreign language lessons, music lessons, art lessons, cooking classes, yoga etiquette classes, surf lessons and more!
Lunch- We will have Chef Sue Torres joining us on Mondays. She will be working with the older Learners in our program to make lunch for the whole School for those who want to purchase lunch. All meals will include organic and natural ingredients whenever possible, with absolutely no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. She will be working with local farms to obtain ingredients, as well as utilizing the garden the Learners will be making. Our younger Learners will be participating as well in a way that is appropriate for their developmental abilities. We will also be offering smoothie bowls on Tuesdays for Lunch.
Pop-Up Restaurant- Chef Sue will also be working with the upper Elementary and Middle School Learners to run several pop-up restaurants. Learns will run the program from start to finish under the direction of Chef Sue.
TSHA Vero Beach Market- Leaners can participate in the market offered on the grounds of the Satellite. Kids can sell their own homemade high-quality goods that they make themselves. All proceeds from their sale will be used towards an agreed upon purchase to benefit the TSHA program. The Learners will discuss and come to a consensus as a group on how to spend the proceeds or save them for a bigger purchase. This is all part of project-based learning and the Socratic method.
Music- Learners will have a weekly music chorus class where they will learn to read music, sing and learn harmony with Mr. Peter. Mr. Peter has been a musician for over 50 years, having studied at Carnegie Hall and traveling with Sammy K. He is not only a vocalist, but plays numerous instruments, including the piano and guitar. He will also be offering a Jam Session for Learners to lean to play guitar.
Invention fair- At the end of the year, we would like to have an invention fair. We are going to pair the children up and ask them to come up with something new that is lacking in this world that they could make and sell. We would actually like them to design a prototype if possible.
Talent show- Every child has a talent, and inside every child is the desire to use their talent. We will be putting together a talent show that will be produced by the Learners who want to participate at every step of the way.
Field trips- We will plan optional field trips. Some will be educational, some will be cultural and some will just be fun. We will meet at the various locations and Parents or guardians will be required to transport their own child(ren) and stay to join in on the fun.
Parent Meetings- On occasion, we will gather at the School to discuss educational and Parenting techniques and challenges and share successful ways to address any challenges we might be facing.
Field day- this might be the most fun day at School ever that I can remember. Think relay races, water balloon and egg tosses, tug of war, obstacle courses and so much more! We will host a field day at the end of the year with all sorts of races and contests.
Execution:
Student Library- All of our books are there for your Learner to use, read and enjoy. They are welcome to take any one of our reference books home for weekend if they are interested with a return date of Monday morning, or the they can borrow our fictional novels for two week periods. They simply need to just sign them out by filling out the card in the back and leaving it in the box.
Parent Library- I have started a library of books for Parents to read, all of which are recommended by TSHA. They are focused on books that further an understanding of the different pedagogies used in the curriculum, as well as helpful books on Parenting and natural living. There will be a sign-out sheet for you to borrow a book.
Website- The website has launched for The School House Anywhere program. Please take a look and see how you are supporting and participating in changing education throughout America! We are more than just a small community. www.TSHAnywhere.org
The portal for TSHA members launches when the school year starts in September! There you will find everything you need to help support you on your educational journey with your Learner. Our specific Satellite also has a Facebook page. Please search The School House Anywhere Vero Beach to follow us.
Membership Fees- The annual tuition is $4,000.00 for each Learner. You have the option to pay it in one payment, or to break it down into 10 payments of $400.00 starting September 1st and the last payment on June 1st. This fee covers all of the expenses for your Learner, including the curriculum, access to the website and Transparent Classroom, all school supplies, materials, Educators, and our group learning environment.
